Lisburn Mayor’s Parade 2010
Thousands flowed through Lisburn on Saturday to celebrate the Lisburn City Mayor’s Carnival 2010 – Lagan Life.
The theme of this year’s Parade Lagan Life, celebrated the importance of the Lagan to Lisburn, the city’s people, its cultural diversity, history, environment and its vision for the future.
Bui Bolg’s bright mobile sculptures, flamboyant floats created a kaleidoscope of colour.
Among the sights wowing parade revelers were the specially commissioned floats nodding to Lisburn’s rich linen heritage: including a large-scale model of the “LORD HERTFORD” Canal Barge representing the opening ceremony of the Lagan Canal in 1763, a large-scale spinning wheel epitomising the great skill of Lisburn artisans both past and present and a huge Salmon. This great fish symbolized the clean-up of the River Lagan and reintroduction of Salmon to the natural river environment is Lisburn.
